Dr Sharon Walsh (PhD) is a Lecturer Above the Bar (Assistant Professor) in Economics at the University of Galway. Her research interests lie in health economics, with a particular focus on the economics of ageing. Her research is informed by the view that the role of an academic is to produce high quality evidence that has the potential to positively impact society and the well-being of its citizens. As an applied economist, she seeks to employ the methodological techniques of economics to examine key economic issues of finance, provision, and access in the context of health and ageing. She has a strong interest in evidence synthesis methods, and has led a Cochrane Review on palliative care interventions in advanced dementia.
