Congratulations to the ESI team on the recent publication in Cochrane Library: ‘Effectiveness of SARS‐CoV‐2 testing strategies in reducing COVID‐19 cases, hospitalisations, and deaths.’
This systematic review provides limited insights into the effectiveness of various severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) testing strategies in reducing COVID‐19 cases, hospitalisations, and mortality amongst individuals with suspected infection or those who are asymptomatic.
Key Messages:
• Few studies have assessed how SARS-CoV-2 tests help or hinder efforts to prevent illness, hospitalisation, or death.
• Because the evidence is weak, it is uncertain whether testing prevents people from becoming sick.
• There is not enough research to show the benefits or harms of different types of SARS-CoV-2 testing for reducing illness, hospitalisations, or deaths.
