Dr Karen McCarthy is a Paediatric Specialist Registrar with a sub-speciality interest in Paediatric Infectious Diseases. She is currently undertaking dual clinical and academic training through the Wellcome-HRB Irish Clinical Academic Training Fellowship. Her PhD in Immunology at Trinity College Dublin focused on developing greater insights into the role of mucosal immune responses to respiratory pathogens following infection and immunisation and harnessing this knowledge to develop next generation vaccination strategies. She has received multiple awards for her research nationally and internationally.
Dr McCarthy graduated with first class honours from the School of Medicine, University College Cork in 2013. During her post-graduate training she was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma and Masters in Paediatric Infectious Diseases from the University of Oxford and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from University College Cork. She holds membership of the Royal College of Physicians Ireland and Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health UK.
She is looking forward to embarking on a systematic review and meta-analysis evaluating monoclonal antibodies for prevention of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in infants and children.
