Pauline is Professor of Research in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Limerick, where she was Head of School from 2021 to 2026. Her methodological expertise is in qualitative evidence synthesis, trial methodology and Delphi consensus methods. She has been Co-Lead of ESI’s Qualitative Evidence Synthesis stream and a member of the executive committee since 2018.

Pauline led the Cochrane priority review on recruitment to vaccine trials during pandemics. She was also senior author on the first Cochrane rapid qualitative evidence synthesis, which addressed World Health Organization priorities during COVID-19. Her research focuses on ageing, cancer survivorship and living with chronic illness. In 2024 she received the ESI/Cochrane Ireland Evidence Synthesis Trainer Award, which took her to Cochrane Norway to deliver training.
